11th Annual Gardening Symposium Presenters
Keynote speaker: Nan Sinton
Nan Sinton is a horticultural consultant, garden designer, and the director of programs for “Horticulture” magazine for whom she organizes and leads an international series of garden seminars, tours and symposia. She has worked on residential and public design projects both in the United States and Europe. Her travels have taken her to visit gardens from Chile to Japan, New Zealand to South Africa and in Europe and the United States. In 2001 Nan co-authored, with Dr. David C. Michener, the “Taylor’s Guide to Ground Covers”, published by Houghton-Mifflin. In 2004 she was awarded a Gold Medal of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for her work in horticultural education. She resides in Massachusetts. |
Workshop presenters:
Jim Nunweiler has a horticulture degree from State University of New York, Morrisville. He is the Floriculture Supervisor at Busch Gardens Europe in Williamsburg, Virginia. He has more than 40 years in the horticulture industry from planning, propagating, growing, landscaping, retailing, and garden maintenance.
George McLellan holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland. He has been employed by My Bloomin Garden for twenty years as a landscape garden designer and installer. His own garden, which as been featured twice on the Virginia Garden Tour, has been described as "one of the loveliest in America" and his designs focus on year-round interest with emphasis on rare, unusual, and native plant materials.
Dr. Linda Johnson received her master’s degree in environmental science and her doctorate in biology at the University of Virginia before joining as a faculty member of Christopher Newport University’s Horticulture Program in fall 2002.
Bob Goodhart is Christopher Newport University’s Landscape Advisor. He
was hired in October 1996 and established the CNU Grounds Department, where he served as the Director of Grounds until November 2003. He is responsible for the relandscaping of the campus since 1996. Prior to coming to CNU he owned and operated his own garden design and consulting business.
Jim Orband has served as an Extension Agent in York County for more than 30 years. He served 10 years as 4-H Agent and now deals with issues of
Agriculture, Horticulture, & Natural Resources. Mr. Orband has a B.S, and M.S. in horticulture from Virginia Tech. He has been gardening since a young age and continues his enjoyment in this field.
